Expert Dealer Spotlight: Sonata Design

Today we’re featuring Sonata Design, a full service design company that services all of Alberta and British Columbia and has showrooms in Calgary, Edmonton and metro Vancouver.

Tyrell Dasilva, Orchestrator of Sonata, explained that when it comes to window coverings, motorization is always top of mind, “We take a motorization first approach to projects, especially with the latest Health Canada regulations.”

Dasilva went on to explain that many times, people buy window coverings and then leave them in one position most of the time.

“The reason for automating your shades isn’t just that its cool,” he says. “It’s actually more functional, you’re getting more value out of your window and your window coverings!”

Dasilva also encourages motorization to allow for more natural light, which can lead to better sleep and health.

Last year, Sonata worked with Somfy to install a variety of motorized shades for Erin Lawrence, of Tech & Gadgets News & Reviews.

“The project with Erin was a lot of fun because she was open to trying several different styles of shades throughout her home,” said Dasilva. They also set up smart home options for Erin, since technology is of special interest for her. Dasilva says that Sonata has an integration team now and that they frequently work with integrators in the area to connect design elements like motorized shades with various smart home systems.

“It’s a really interesting time to be in the industry,” says Dasilva. “I like to think that we’re a leader, especially with motorization. People are looking for solutions and we have a lot of them!”

Erin agrees, “The team at Sonata made choosing my Somfy automated shades so easy. I got clear explanations and demonstrations of the different types of products available in the design centre, and I was able to choose the right type of window coverings for my home.” She goes on to say, “I’m so happy with my Somfy shades from Sonata. Plus, the app and voice control make using them effortless. I almost wish I had more windows so I could repeat my experience!”
