It’s amazing the difference a pair of motorized shades can make! While you might think of motorized shades opening in your bedroom to wake you up in the morning or closing in your living room at night to maintain privacy, there are so many interesting uses for motorization. For instance, CMI Interiors, Inc. helped one customer turn his garage into the perfect Corvette-themed man cave. The owner of this elaborate man cave is a huge Corvette fan and initially bought the free-standing garage in order to store and work on his Corvettes. But a funny thing started happening: his friends kept visiting the garage. What started out as just a workspace soon morphed into more of a social space, and soon the owner was struggling with how to accommodate his friends and cars. The garage morphed into more of a formal man cave, complete with Corvette-themed decor. One of the major issues turning the garage into a comfortable man cave was the lack of natural light. The garage had steel doors and no windows, which made everyone feel too claustrophobic. At the same time, the owner didn’t want to always have the doors wide open so that anyone passing by could look in. He wanted to strike a balance between letting the light in and maintaining privacy. Most of all, he wanted the solution to match the man cave’s Corvette theme. CMI Interiors provided the perfect solution with motorized blackout roller shades, complete with tinted vinyl inserts. The tinted inserts allowed natural light into the garage while maintaining the privacy of everyone inside. CMI Interiors also made sure the shades were custom printed to mimic part of the Corvette logo in keeping with the man cave’s theme. Now the space is suitable for all-weather people watching. “Due to the size of the motorization, Somfy was the obvious choice,” said Jessica Reinhart of CMI Interiors. “The owner did not want to be lifting two heavy shades, so motorization was the answer. Plus I’m sure the ‘wow factor’ and tech aspect for a man cave design must have come into play too!” Another Corvette owner asked if he could use the space for a get-together and the owner realized his personal man cave was also a great rental opportunity. On top of the garage, he installed a rooftop bar and more seating and now rents out the space occasionally to other Corvette lovers and bachelor parties. What started out as a simple garage for working on Corvettes morphed into an in-demand man cave. The Corvette-patterned motorized roller shades made the space more inviting by providing natural light, easy control, and added privacy. This high-tech solution turned a small space into the perfect man cave for Corvette lovers.
