06-05-2019 Inspiration & Ideas by Morgan Glennon Discover How Motorized Shades Helped This Tech Blogger Create a Relaxing Beach House Learn why technology blogger Carley Knobloch considered motorized shades a must-have item for her minimalist beach house oasis. Technology expert Carley Knobloch uses her beach house to get away from her constantly connected life. This beach home is her family’s way of escaping the hustle and bustle, so she was very mindful and specific about what sort of technology products would be included. As a tech expert who has appeared on, among others, The Today Show and HGTV, Knobloch couldn’t entirely forgo all technology. After all, she knows better than most that some home technology can actually make your life easier, more comfortable and more relaxed. Which is why motorized shades were on her short list for inclusion in her family’s low-tech, high relaxation beach home. Her light-filled beach house has plenty of windows, which is great when you want to bask in the sun and enjoy the day. Not as great when you want to limit UV exposure or protect your privacy. The existing blinds on those windows were only a year old but the salt air was already rusting the chains and staining the linens. Those worries are now out the window with motorized shades. There are no chains or cords to deal with and no need to run around the room moving the shades up or down. The convenience factor of motorized shades was a real selling point for Knobloch. When she leaves the beach to return to her tech-filled life, she can still control her shades from afar thanks to the myLink™ app. Since the app allows her to create scenes of multiple shades moving together and schedule those shades to open and close at specific times of the day, she can even focus on keeping her beach house plants alive. (So far, so good!) Being able to schedule window coverings also means saving money on energy bills, as the shades can be scheduled to close during the hottest parts of the day when the sun would otherwise be shining directly into her home. After a long day on the beach, additional sun exposure is the last thing this tech wiz and her family need. With the touch of a button now she can lower the shades to protect sensitive skin and furnishings from sun damage. Best of all, Somfy-powered motorized shades are as beautiful as they are smart. Since Somfy works with a variety of fabricators, Knobloch had a wide selection of fabrics to choose from. This means she was able to match her shades perfectly with her beachy decor. “I’m always enamored with beautiful, natural products that are smart under the hood but don’t scream, “I’M TECHY!” I love that we have these shades that feel summery, beachy, and add so much texture to the wall while still blending in, AND can take advantage of all these convenience features.” - Carley Knobloch Click here to read the full post on Carley Knobloch’s blog!
