Disability Rights Advocate Imani Barbarin Uses Motorized Shades to Make Life Easier

“I love when things can just be easier for me,” says Imani Barbarin, a disability rights and inclusion advocate and speaker.

Imani leads a busy life advocating for disability representation and inclusion through speaking engagements, blogging, and working as a communications director. As a disabled person, she knows the big impact that small things have on making daily life easier. Not having to get up to raise and lower her shades helps her save energy for more important things – like her speaking engagements.

“Something small like shades, it makes all the difference when you’re trying to conserve energy throughout the day,” she explains. “Think about how easy it is for me as a disabled person to utilize these shades - I’m conserving my energy with a remote control!”

“Somfy shades allow me independence and help me set the tone for my room and prioritize rest and rejuvenation,” says Imani, who chose blackout shades for her bedroom to help promote better sleep.
